Workplace

The "ROC"
So I spend most of my work week out in the industrial wastelands of west Eugene in EWEB's new "Roosevelt Operations Center".  It really is a hideous location, far from anywhere and anything you would want to be near.  While I try to ride my bike most of the time, I came to the conclusion that I will be driving to work more than I have in many years, especially as the days shorten and the biking becomes more and more dangerous.  I recently solved this problem with the addition of a new mode of travel to work...

Day hike to Sisters Mirror Lakes

Pond on the way to the lakes
We had originally intended to do an overnight backpacking trip, but got lazy (and the weather forecast did not look promising).  We day hiked to Sisters Mirror Lakes instead.  I had not been here in almost 30 years.  It was a bit disappointing because you really cannot see the South Sister from the main lake, but I recall better views from the other lakes in the group.Still a very pleasant hike.

Labor Day tradition continues

Waldo Lake from Maiden Peak
We spent an extended weekend at Waldo Lake for Labor Day, which we have now done for several years.  Beautiful weather this time.  Kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, hanging out with friends; it was a great time as usual.  This year's hike was up Maiden Peak where we had hazy, but good views and enjoyed the lack of crowds.
