Finally, some snow to ski!

Outside the Meissner Shelter
We had some snow back before Thanksgiving here in Central Oregon, but scant amounts since.  With a foot or so of new dry powder we decided it was time to make the trek to the trails.  Meissner for cross country skiing was great.  Despite the crowded trailhead parking lot, which was mostly full of folks there for a high school race, we found empty trails and very good snow for our outing.  The next day, we used our "free" early season day up at Mt Bachelor - which was great also.  Sun, blue skies, and fresh snow; it was a good weekend in Bend.

In town Deschutes River walk

Deschutes River

It was too beautiful this past Sunday to stay inside, so we took a quick walk upstream of the Old Mill area along the Deschutes.  It is great to have this river and small canyon right in town.  We are lucky.

Walk to Tumalo Falls

It was meant to be a ski trip to the falls, but the snow was too old and icy so we walked.  Still a pleasant afternoon and the falls were beautiful as always.  This is the time of year when it is easy to have this place to yourselves.

Olympic Coast Thanksgiving 2019

Spruce tree on the Bogie property

Another Thanksgiving holiday on the Olympic Peninsula.  This time we had remarkably beautiful weather.  Great beach walking and forest exploring.  Even the holiday traffic cooperated making our eight hour drive (each way) almost bearable. Great to get some west side rain forest time!
