February camping

Battleground Lake

We camped this weekend at Battleground Lake State Park near Vancouver, Washington.  It was a spectacularly beautiful weekend, warm (for February) and sunny.  This park is convenient, if not spectacular.  It is an interesting lake situated in a small volcanic explosion crater.  Numerous trails encircle the lake, though most of the area is fairly heavily treed and views are sparse.  Still, we enjoyed ourselves immensely in Lowell and it was good to get the camper out again.

More Central Oregon time

On a hike from the condo to the Deschutes River trail

Over the Feb 12-15 Presidents Day weekend we made it back out to Bend.  Spent a day at Bachelor where it was still too warm, but at least the precipitation remained as snow and not rain.  William continues to ski well.  We looked at some possible investment/vacation properties in the area.  Had to return home on the most beautiful day of the whole weekend, but at least that made for a nice drive.  We stayed with Maria's sister at the Inn of the Seventh Mountain.

Skiing in an El Nino year

Deschutes River flowing through Sunriver Resort

Well, it has not been a banner ski year in the PNW, at least in terms of snow conditions and quantity.   However, it has been a banner year for William.  On a recent weekend at Mt Bachelor he skied his first black diamond run and had a great time doing it.  I can only imagine how he'll do in good snow conditions.
