Back to the Rain Forest

Wood Sorrel, Ferns, and Sitka Spruce

Last weekend was the annual owners work party at the Bogachiel property. We drove 360 miles from Eugene to La Push on Friday, spent an hour or so at 2nd Beach and the rest of the weekend at the cabin. Most of the work entailed pulling firewood out of the adjacent clear-cut. Amazing how much waste was left behind. It was a drizzly, cool June weekend on the Peninsula.

Camping on Panther Creek

Panther Creek

We went camping at Panther Creek Campground, north of Carson on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge. Slightly more than an hour from the Portland metro area, the campground was surprisingly empty when we arrived Friday late afternoon. This little stream is a tributary of the Wind River. The Pacific Crest Trail goes through the campground so we did a couple mile hike up to some oak groves on the dry ridge tops. We also drove to Panther Creek Falls, about five miles away, which is a particularly beautiful series of several falls converging together. Oddly, this waterfall is not on any map that I checked.
