Backpacking in the Sierras
OK, I am FINALLY getting around to posting something here. It has been a long time. Summer is over, Fall is here. Still hoping for a few more dry weather outings but also looking forward to snow in the mountains and solitude at the coast.
I did manage to get out for an eight-day backpacking trip at the beginning of August. We did the North Lake - South Lake JMT loop from near Bishop. The Sierras are amazing. I've always been partial to the Wind Rivers, but I might have to alter that thinking. Another trip down to the southern Sierras in order to complete the JMT down to Mt Whitney should seal the deal. Only problem with this area were the crowds, but those can largely be forgiven because of the scenery. We had great weather, great camps, no bugs, and not quite enough off trail exploring - but my body cooperated and I had the best trip I have had in years. I'll be back.
