Hand Lake Stopover

Hand Lake, Mt Washington in the distance

Yesterday, June 25th, my mother passed away.  On the way home to Bend yesterday evening I stopped and hiked out to Hand Lake shelter off Hwy 242.  Being still early season, the lake held water and the scene was fresh, cool, green, and beautiful.  I'll miss Mom (and Dad), who helped to make me the person I am and instilled/encouraged a love of exploring and seeking out places like this.  Rest in peace, Mom.

Crane Prairie Evening

Looking toward Mt Bachelor across Crane Prairie Reservoir
Spent an evening with friends up at Crane Prairie Reservoir.  It is a 45 minute drive from home and a world away.  Beautiful evening of campfire, watching bats, listening to night hawks, and enjoying the twilight over Crane Prairie.

Little Lava Lake

Lowell and Little Lava Lake

Maria and I met Ken up at Little Lava for a quick overnighter.  We left the boats at home because the forecast called for snow.  The snow did arrive.  Snow in June helps keep the crowds and mosquitoes at bay.  It was glorious.

King Estate

View From the Restaurant

Maria and I enjoyed lunch at King Estate Winery near Lorane.  This is just a beautiful spot, outside of Eugene.  One of my favorite bike riding areas.  Good to get back there.
