After our almost two weeks hiking the Via Alpina it was off to southern Switzerland, by train, where we stayed a few nights in Lugano enjoying a boat tour and picking up our rental car. From there we made our way across northern Italy, over Stelvio Pass (a remarkable road) and on the the Val Gardena in the Dolomites. Will joined us there and enjoyed lift served hikes and great Italian food. We then made our way to Piran, Slovenia, a beautiful little town on the Adriatic. More great food, walks, history, swimming in the Adriatic, and a driving tour of Croatia's Istria Peninsula. We then headed to Lake Bled, through the Julian Alps, and on the the Grosglockner High Alpine Road in Austria. Our trip ended with another stay in Switzerland, this time the Appenzell region, and a two night stopover in Iceland on the way home.
