North Cascades Fall Trip 2022

Maria along the PCT south of Hart's Pass

In what is becoming a Fall tradition, Maria and I headed to the Methow Valley this October to enjoy some the colors turning and the crowds dissipating.  We enjoyed long hikes, some challenging mountain biking, and the cooler weather.  Such a beautiful place and so much more to explore.

Anniversary Trip to Europe, Part 2

Self-explanatory

After our almost two weeks hiking the Via Alpina it was off to southern Switzerland, by train, where we stayed a few nights in Lugano enjoying a boat tour and picking up our rental car.  From there we made our way across northern Italy, over Stelvio Pass (a remarkable road) and on the the Val Gardena in the Dolomites.  Will joined us there and enjoyed lift served hikes and great Italian food.  We then made our way to Piran, Slovenia, a beautiful little town on the Adriatic.  More great food, walks, history, swimming in the Adriatic, and a driving tour of Croatia's Istria Peninsula.  We then headed to Lake Bled, through the Julian Alps, and on the the Grosglockner High Alpine Road in Austria.  Our trip ended with another stay in Switzerland, this time the Appenzell region, and a two night stopover in Iceland on the way home.

The Via Alpina, Switzerland

Starting out, by train from Zurich to Gstaad

Maria and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with a month long trip to Europe.  The trip began with 12 days of hiking a section of the Via Alpina in Switzerland from Gstaad to Engelberg.  It was epically beautiful and thoroughly enjoyable.  We stayed in villages each night, crossing a high pass nearly every day to get to the next place.  The weather was perfect and the views amazing.  Really hard to leave the trail - I could have kept going for another couple of weeks - but that is part two of our trip - coming later.
