Elkhorn Crest Trail
Rock Creek Butte in the distance |
Maria and I enjoyed a two night backpack along the Elkhorn Crest Trail. While I had hiked portions of this trail more recently, I had not ventured this far along the crest since the 1980s. While beautiful and and enjoyable walk due to its relatively level, high elevation, the Elkhorn Crest Trail has been degraded by the surge in side-by-side and quad traffic of recent years. There are too many old mining roads that provide access all the way to the top. The whole trail should be non-motorized, but it has been managed for the pleasure of the motorized crowd and is greatly diminished for everyone else.
