My first backpacking trip since summer of 2006! A very short hike to a campsite at the head of Larrison Cove on Hills Creek Reservoir. It felt good to have a backpack on and camp in the tent again. Nobody else around, and great wildlife as well as old growth made for a very pleasant outing. Having only an hour drive to the trail head was also a plus. Will have to head up this way again.

Two Times to the Olympic Peninsula in May

We travelled the six and a half hours (each way) between Eugene and Forks twice in May; once for the annual Bogachiel cabin owners' work party and again over the Memorial Day weekend. Lots of driving! Still, a nice place to go - and William really loves it. We took his friend Sophie, from Olympia, on both outings and they had a ball. I don't need to do that drive again any time soon - especially now that gas is well over $4/gallon!
