I have had the Black Rock Desert on my list of places to visit for years.  Not wanting to go there anytime near the Burning Man fiasco, I chose winter.  Also, while the playa of Black Rock Desert is interesting, more interesting and more remote is the Soldier Meadows area.  We met there for five nights in March and enjoyed great hot springs, incredible quiet, and the huge views that are the Basin and Range province.  We also enjoyed wildlife and a lot of history.  Even better, this trip merely scratched the surface for what is there to be explored.  I will be back.
